Superbugs, Antibiotic Resistance and The Meat Industry
During Bait and Switch TV's live interview and interactive debate with Dr. Mellon, we will talk about her work on the "Keep Antibiotics Working" campaign. Doctors depend on antibiotics to treat illnesses caused by bacteria, from pneumonia to meningitis and other life-threatening infections. The effectiveness of many antibiotics is declining after decades of overuse and misuse in the meat and dairy supply. Dr. Mellon gave her expert testimony before the US House in 2009 on the Rules of the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, and is an outspoken advocate of food safety. Together with Jane Rissler, she is the co-author of The Ecological Risks of Engineered Crops.
